The races at PFI were hard but in the end we got a good result with Mathias finishing sixt in the Final, starting from P12.
The pace was good and Mathias was happy with the handling of the chassis throughout the week.
We were missing a few tenths to fight with De Ruwe (Formula K) and Babington/Backman (OTK), but had similar pace to Cooper/Kanscar (Birel) and Laiho (OTK).
We qualified 8th on Friday in very hot weather. On Saturday, still in very hot conditions, Mathias finished P3 in the first Heat, P9 in the second (after a tangle with Lukovic, otherwise a Top 5 finish was possible) and P5 in the third Heat.
In Sunday morning warm-up, in much cooler temperatures, Mathias was 4th quickest and felt he could have done better still, so we were hoping for a strong Pre-Final.
In that PreFinal, starting from P8, Mathias unfortunately had to take to the grass in the first turn, to avoid contact with drivers sliding in front of him.
He fell back, out of the Top 20, but fought back strongly to finish in P12.
We still believed in a strong result in the Final because that was going to be a long and hard race.
Mathias started that Final relatively well from the outside lane and put in an excellent performance, with some really good overtaking, and catching the leaders by the end of the race. He finished a strong sixt.
This was our first good result of the year in the Rotax Euro Challenge and we hope to finish the season with a podium in Salbris, for the final round.
The MS Kart performed well in Salbris last year, so hopes our high.
Also, congratulations to Peter Bezel with his fine drives at PFI. He raced really well against the army of Tonykarts!
We hope Jirka and Michael will come to Salbris in September.
